Rest in peace, Adabire Aburiya Sambo

Sambo was a true master of the kologo, and I think it's safe to say that he was the most popular musician in Bolgatanga (northern Ghana). He was about to record his first international album for Chop Time Music with the help of his good friend King Ayisoba. We were all looking forward to it.

Last week I heard the sad news of his passing.
Rest in peace, Sambo. Your music will live on.

Amartey Hedzoleh - Kukurantumi: vinyl release in december 2013

Get ready for our next release, "Kukurantumi" by Amartey Hedzoleh: previously unreleased 80's Afro-rock by the founder of Hedzoleh Soundz. Out in December...

Amartey Hedzoleh is a veteran of Ghana's Afro-rock scene. Drawing from various musical traditions in Ghana and from his part Indian roots, he has created his own distinctive style.
He started in the 60's as bass player and singer of the Psychedelic Aliens, and performed with them at the legendary Soul to Soul concert in Accra. In 1972 he founded Hedzoleh Soundz, which earned him the name Hedzoleh (a Ga word for peace and freedom). He left the group before they hit the studio, but his songs ended up being recorded on their debut album and on Hugh Masekela's "Introducing Hedzoleh Soundz". Soon after that, he embarked on a solo career.
Among other projects, Amartey Hedzoleh wrote and performed the soundtrack of King Ampaw's 1983 movie "Kukurantumi - Road to Accra". After he handed over his tape to the film crew, he recorded a new and expanded version of the soundtrack with many extra songs. It was never released, and the tapes were left on the shelf for decades. A selection of these recordings is presented here for the first time ever.

SAKRA AFRICAN ORCHESTRA: debut album NOFITELO (The Destroyer) now available on CD

The Sakra African Orchestra from Ghana plays a unique and very danceable style of Ga highlife with flavours of reggae, Afrobeat and Latin, using traditional African instruments. Many of its musicians are former members of the renowned Pan African Orchestra.
Sakra means 'change' in the language of the Ga people from the Accra region. Sakra was formed in the late 1980's by drummer Nii Adjetey Adjei, and spent its early years playing in Togo and Nigeria.
Today, the Sakra African Orchestra continues to amaze crowds with its spectacular live shows full of dancing and acrobatics.
