This was the Q&A session which followed the screening of the documentary BLACK STARS OF HIGHLIFE at the combination launch night in support of the new album release LOVE IN AFRICA by KODJOVI KUSH and the AFROSPOT ALLSTARS.

KODJOVI KUSH & AFROSPOT ALL STARS - LOVE IN AFRICA


Led by the charismatic singer and musician Kodjovi Kush, this band is all about the joyous sounds of West African music: highlife, afrobeat and ‘agbadjazz’ - a fusion of the traditional 6/8 agbadja music of the Ewe people from Togo, Ghana and Benin with jazz and reggae influences.

Born in Togo, Kodjovi grew up in a musical environment.
Inspired by his father, who used to tour Africa with his bands Eryko Jazz de la Capitale and Los Muchachos in the 50s and 60s, he started his first band at the age of 15.
In the 90s, after touring Europe with some traditional groups from Togo, he settled in London. There he formed the band Jah’s Afrik and joined Ibile, the Soothsayers and Yesking as a bass player and vocalist, playing mainly reggae and African music.
During this time he performed with great artists such as Tony Allen, Seun Kuti, Alpha Blondy, Gregory Isaacs and many others.  

Eventually Kodjovi created the Afrospot club night, named after Fela Kuti’s first nightclub in Lagos.It was frequented by some of London’s finest musicians, and soon the Afrospot All Stars were born: a collective of seasoned players from all over West Africa and the UK.
Chop Time Music proudly presents their debut album, “Love in Africa”.

AGONGO - I AM SUFFERING


Agongo, a kologo player from Bolgatanga, Ghana, is very popular among the Frafra people,
with several albums, videos and local hit songs to his name.
His debut album, I Am Suffering, is now available on CD and digital download.

Agongo @ Batakari Night, january 30th at Alliance Francaise, Accra


Agongo, also known as Jacob Abagnagongo, is a popular kologo (lute) player from Bolgatanga in Ghana's Upper East region.
His international debut album "I Am Suffering", with a guest appearance by King Ayisoba, will be released by Chop Time in the spring of 2016.

Razigal is a dancehall MC from Ghana.
In his neighbourhood in central Accra, known for its wild and vibrant outdoor nightlife,
he quickly gained local fame with hits like Kpoo, Abalaboo and Adi De De.
Toasting over dancehall and azonto beats, Razigal attracts crowds of excited youths who know his lyrics in the native Ga language by heart.
